Summary
Writing that he is "much vexed that any rash statement of mine may have misled either you or Messrs Blackwood about Mill or John Morley"; telling Knight that he should not count on Balfour as a contributor, but "if at a period of greater leisure the spirit moves me, I shall feel proud to take part in the excellent work which you are doing in connection with Blackwood's series."
