Mentioning a recent visit from Baron Hamilton of Dalzell, his recipient's recent "escape" from Montenegro, current European politics, and Sir Henry Elliot's recent "disgrace" (presumably referrng to the public reaction to his pro-Turkish stance in the wake of the "Bulgarian atrocities"), i.e. "Elliot is to be pitied, an ordinary man in an extraordinary position ... I have reason to rejoice in Elliot's disgrace and when Eldridge goes, my revanche will be complete and my book will come out."
