Summary
Concerning the death of Bain's former student, William Minto: "I am sorry to say that I have been for some time in a state of preparation for the event, which, however, does not abate the intrinsic sadness of the change. Few men have left the stage with a more unanimous public appreciation both of the amount and the nature of their gifts and excellencies"; thanking Knight for his "flattering reference to my own work, now well nigh finished, and left to the judgment of those that are entitled to pronounce."
