Summary
Sending her condolences on the death of Lady Beaumont's husband, Sir George Howland Beaumont: "And as long as any one remains alive who had the happiness of his intimate acquaintance, the meekness with which he bore his rare natural gifts, his various acquirements, the advantages of fortune, etc. -- in short the sweetness & genuine, manly modesty of his character, will be remembered with admiration & respect"; recalling his support of her own work: "As to myself I owe him many a friendly encouraging cheer when my heart had need of cheering. If aught deserved praise in the different things that I published, he was sure to bestow it upon me with ready & hearty goodwill, when others were cold, cautious or careless..."; thinking of how the news will affect the painter Sir David Wilkie: "poor Wilkie in a foreign land, when he shall hear of the Death of his kind & liberal Patron"; conveying the condolences of her sister Agnes and her sister-in-law Sophia as well.
