Summary
Discussing the long lapse in their communication, Christopher's Fry's new play and George Bernard Shaw; replying to her letter after seven years of not hearing from her; saying "It is seven years since I heard from you, a holy number, sevn[sic] days of the week, seven gifts of the holy ghost, seven sacrements[sic], and many others;" commenting on Mr. Fry's new play and saying that Eileen & Breon liked it very much and adding "Something worthy has at last appeared - by an Englishman - on the English stage. Whether Mr. Fry likes my plays or no is his concern and not mine;" commenting on Shaw's last days saying "To me, he is as much alive as ever - not in the Christian way, or even the Christian Science way; but in the living on of the great mind in the world's life and the world's affairs. Eileen was with him twice for a long time during the last days, and had long chats with him...He - G.B.S. - gave the O'Caseys his blessing on her last visit, and tried to hand his mantle over to Sean. 'It depends on Sean, now'; but the cloak is far too big for Sean, though he has long ago torn a piece from it, and wears it tightly woven into his own mantle. He was very fond of Eileen, which is something she is very proud of. I'm not surprised that you disagree with a lot I said about G.B.S. He was, all the same (as well as being a great playwright), a revolutionary saint, or a saintly revolutionary - whichever way you like to put it;" adding that he is working on another volume of his "biographical sketches."
