Summary
Concerning a letter from Matthew Arnold to Principal Shairp; apologizing for her delay in responding to his letter and explaining it was due to the death of a niece; referring to a letter published in the Leeds Mercury which she and her sister-in-law "...wished, if possible, to have the whole letter, in order to send it to Mr. Russell for insertion in the forthcoming volume of letters. The letter you mention addressed to Principal Shairp I am sure we shall be most glad to have, if Mrs. Shairp will be so very kind as to allow us to have it, or a copy of it?"
