Summary
Replying to his request for "letters or extracts" from Wordsworth to her husband; saying "...I have no letter of W. Wordsworth's to my husband & no journal or paper, with any record of visits to Rydal Mount. I am sure if Mr. Arnold had a letter from W. Wordsworth he would certainly have preserved it either here, or at Fox How. With the exception of when he was sent by Gov't to the Continent on an Education Mission in 1859 - and again in 1865, Mr. Arnold never kept a journal of any kind - I have often regretted this. Your thorough appreciation of his Selections from Wordsworth is a real pleasure. To Mr. Arnold the work was a labour of love & he was profoundly gratified by its success - I think it has invited many to read Wordsworth who would otherwise never have done so & this makes one feel it has done good; relating news of her family and apologizing for not being able to supply him with any material "...for your great undertaking - regret I feel also on my own account."
