Summary
Saying to Marchesa Angélique Potenziani that in spite of the rigidity of her fingers and her trembling hands, she does not want to see the year end without sending her her love and telling her that neither time nor distance can change a heart, which as long as it is beating, will beat for her and her family; reporting that her granddaughter Cajanello, now Marchesa Cesavolpe, who has just arrived, had visited Sophie in Bologna where she and her husband enjoyed cordial hospitiality; adding that she feels she has aged, that she is burdened beyond her strength with distribution and accounting and that she wished to be free of that onerous administrations and great responsibility vis-à-vis her children; that her deepest sorrow, however, is caused by the absense of the greater part of the family who she hoped would be around her and take care of her during her last years; mentioning her daughter Angélique, who followed only her inspiration and instead of being grateful, blames her for her temporary exile, and her son Camille who is pursuing his mission in Constantinople.
