Summary
Saying to Marchesa Angélique Potenziani that she has to announce the saddest news from her family, namely that since the five days Caroline is staying with her and that although this event was anticipated, it does not make the heartache any easier to bear; adding that a legal separation is almost impossible to obtain and that Caroline's husband would never consent to an amiable one so that Caroline will end up returning to her brutal husband and his vile family where there will be besides all the rest, "nothing to live on."
