Summary
Apologizing for not having replied earlier but explaining that he has "...been moving into a flat (12 Piazza Santa Croce) and had to give all my time to an Introduction for a posthumous book by D.H. Lawrence;" saying he will be in Florence all winter; commenting on potential difficulties for the translation into Italian of Death of a Hero saying "...I have always feared that an Italian translation of Death of a Hero would meet with difficulties. Would the same objection apply to The Colonel's Daughter? This novel has already been four times reprinted in America, and is being translated into Danish, Swedish, German and French. It is forbidden in Ireland and Australia and 'banned' by the English circulating libraries, but still has a large sale in England. Failing that, might it not be possible to arrange with an Italian literary periodical to use some of my short stories, either from Roads to Glory or from the new book I now have in the press, which will be called Soft Answers. But I see the difficulties, and shall not be disappointed if nothing can be done."
