Summary
Concerning his brother's wish to spend the winter in Florence; saying "My brother, who appears practically to have made up his mind to spend the winter, with his wife & younger children, in Florence, asks me to send you the enclosed, & I do so with joy - The more joy as, if they do go, I don't see how I can resist such a pretext to spend also at least a portion of the period near them - & shall thereby the more see you. I am afraid one or two of his questions may give you a little trouble to answer - viz: those about the date of opening of the English school, the quantity of French obtainable there, the circular, the relative merit of the old school... but any light you are able to throw will be greatly appreciated. It is mainly a question, after all, of when the English school begins. I tell my brother that if they are on the field by the 20th October or so they will have a complete choice of winter apartments. I wrote to you a few days ago - & I fear you have been since then through the fiery furnace. Is it over with Miss G?? I hope so not less for herself than for you."
