Summary
Expressing his concern over his accident; saying "I was of course much shocked & alarmed by your telegram...However, I am infinitely glad your case is no worse - horrible as some of your moments - or rather all of them - must have been. The sudden violence of the whole thing must have been hideous - & the misery of the death so close to you...I hope your sprains & bruises will promptly subside...I feel almost responsible - as if you were still my guest."
