Summary
Commenting on the cuts made by Manvell to the text of his play "Marsaili's Weeping", and proposing some dates for a special performance of the play to be given expressly for his benefit; with a discussion of the limitations on performance of poetic drama; his frustration at having his plays "mutilated" to fit a proscenium stage when his intention is to have them recited "on an open platform, intentionally putting poetry foremost all the time ... This is something like what takes place at the Comedie Français when they do Racine; but we have no equivalent for that in England", the disadvantages his plays face when they appear and are judged alongside "realistic" plays, and the kinship between poetic drama and opera.
