Notes
The mask here referred to as the subject of Boahm's letter is probably the death mask alleged to be the face of Shakespeare which had belonged originally to German artist Ludwig Becker (1808-1861), the authenticity of which was notably rejected by Thomas Carlyle and much disputed during the period Boehm's letter was wriiten.
Written on stationery printed "The Avenue, / 76, Fulham Road, S.W."
