Summary
Concerning the Higginsons trip to Paris; hoping she will "give yourself up to that city as whole-heartedly & with as simplified a consciousness (in respect to the left-behind) as if you were Adam & Eve in their great garden;" expressing his pleasure at their visit to him saying "The sense of your peaceful little (much too little) stay here has hung about me as a blessing, & the same beautiful conditions -- of air & weather & fragrance -- have enveloped the whole place as if to keep undispersed the charming memory of you...& the glory of your presence, & the wonder of your conversation & the wealth of your lore, will soon have become a fondly preserved legend. I hope Paris will have been really convenient, & completely rewarding, & not too hot or too complicated or too monstrous. The Louvre is monstrous -- but a monster you will probably have spent most of your time stroking the ears & pulling the tail of! I envy you the freshness of that impression. I had it 1st too long ago;" expressing his hope that he might be able to visit them for a day in Folkestone.
