Manuscript of a poem entitled "Ballad of dissension on ornaments", which later appeared in print under the title "Ballade of illegal ornaments", written by Belloc in response to a controversy surrounding the decorations of a church interior that culminated in an official order to remove the ornaments in question, including a female figure holding a child. First line: When that the Eternal deigned to look / On us poor folk to make us free.
