Summary
Declining an invitation and enclosing a manuscript of a poem entitled "Ballad of dissension on ornaments", which later appeared in print under the title "Ballad of illegal ornaments", written by Belloc in response to a controversy surrounding the decorations of a church interior that culminated in an order to remove the ornaments in question, including a female figure holding a child ("I have written a ballad which I cannot print because of a scandal ... It is about Dr. Baines & his order to "remove the Female Figure with a Child". I send you the first edition.").
