Summary
Thanking her for her words of praise in support of her plays and stating that the three volumes of her collected dramas have received a warmer reception than she had been led to expect by the general neglect of her last two works, "The martyr" and "The bride"; expressing her hopes for a positive notice from the Edinburgh and Quarterly Reviews, and her pleasure at hearing that Mrs. Fletcher has settled comfortably with her family in her new home at Chatham; relating news of friends and family, particularly the plight of Lucy Aikin who has been troubled by the loss of her hearing, and expressing the opinion that she is not as deaf as she and her brother, who attends her, seem to believe.
