Summary
A collection of twenty-five autograph letters signed from William Upcott to John Temple, a fellow autograph enthusiast, on topics ranging from a review of Dibdin's latest book, an evening with W.H. Ireland "of Shakespeare notoriety", a detailed account of his visit to Dawson Turner, another avid autograph collector, and a letter from August 30, 1826 bemoaning his ill-health and discussing its effect on his autograph collecting (MA 8715.2-26). The collection includes a letter from W.S. W. Vaux (MA 8715.1), an English antiquary and, at the time of writing, the Secretary of the Royal Asiatic Society, to Sir Richard Temple about Mr. Upcott, and a letter from Upcott's daughter, Elizabeth Butt to Sir Richard Temple with a printed copy of a lengthy article on her father published anonymously in the May issue of Temple Bar 1876.
