Notes
Of the 32 letters from Josiah Webbe to Colonel John Murray six letters are autograph signed, three of which are marked "Private" and 26 are letters signed, 5 of which are marked "Duplicate." The letters from Josiah Webbe to Colonel Murray date from May 22, 1804 through October 14, 1804 and are written from "Camp near Burhanpur." One letter, MA 1287.5, is partially in cipher.
Volume 30 (MA 1287) of a 33-volume collection of the correspondence of Sir James Pulteney, his family and distinguished contemporaries "the larger portion having reference to the Duke of York's Expedition to the low Countries and to the Threatened Invasion of England by Napoleon" (MA 487, MA 297 and MA 1260-1290). The arrangement of the collection is alphabetical by the author. Summary
A collection of 54 letters and documents primarily to Colonel John Murray and Sir James Pulteney including 32 letters from Josiah Webbe to Colonel John Murray, 11 letters from various authors to Sir James Pulteney including three autograph signed letters from George Yonge to Sir James Pulteney. Also in this volume is one letter from Count Simon Woronzow to Lord Grenville, one extract of a letter from the Marquis of Hertford to Lord Grenville and one copy of a letter from Sir Charles Wale to William Dundas, addressed to him as "Secretary at War."
