Reporting on the situation at Ypres; providing troop strength and positions; commenting on the Royalists gathering in the Vendée and its impact on the conclusion of the war; commenting on the Austrians saying "I wish We could find out something to make our friends the Austrians forget Intrigues & Cabals wh. have lately exceeded every thing during the last Campaign;" adding, in a postscript, that he expects to be a Lieutenant in a few days.
