Summary
Reporting troop positions on the "Approaches against Landrecies;" saying "From all Accounts it appears that the Enemy have about 120,000 Men in our front from Maubeuge to Cambray. It is more than probable that they will make one general Attempt to raise the Siege, in which they are not likely to succeed better than in their partial Attacks. The 3'd D. Guards suffer'd Yesterday having 40 men & more Horses killed & wounded. The French Yesterday likewise made an Attack at Berlaimont & were repulsed. It was originally intended to have made the Blokade of Maubeuge & the Siege of Landrecies at the same time but the expected Reinforcements from the Rhine having been detained owing to the Prussian business prevented this Plan's being carried into Execution;" apologizing for being so long in his debt and telling him that his father will be sending him £70; relating news of troop movements and enemy positions; adding, in a postscript, an "exact Report" of the casualties at Denain and informing him that "Gen'l Wurmb kept his Post & did not retire as was at first reported."
