Summary
Concerning a letter sent by Pitt to Addington; saying "...as it is possible, and even probable, that Mr. Addington may have found my Letter, which I sent to him about three weeks ago, it would be a very awkward matter, if he should observe so material a difference between the copy & the original. We read over the passages you marked with pencil, and I cannot see that Mr. Addington can take any offense at the mention of the name alluded to. Were the business to be brought on now for the first time, I should instantly agree to expunge those parts, because you disapprove of them, but as it is only sending him a copy of an original Letter before sent, it strikes us both that we cannot very well alter it. However we determined to do nothing without asking your permission, and I promised to write to you this day, that not a moment may be lost. Will you have the goodness to give me a line in answer as soon as possible."
