Summary
Expressing his dismay that it has been a long time since he has heard from him; discussing his own peace of mind and flattering Lally-Tolendal on his accomplishments and renown; saying that "...even in these days...one Honest Irish man and one Honest scotchman and that in them will be found that Honor, Virtue, and integrity is not yet meerly in a Form of Words and in Name, having now explained my own ideas...I wait patiently - and perfectly satisfied (as I have now so clearly and fully expressed myself) all, rests now with you;" quoting from a letter he wrote to Minister Talleyrand at the urging of a General concerning his desire to obtain a three months leave to return to England; telling him that if he did wrong in writing that letter he is not to blame as he was pressed to do it by the General who "was certain I would obtain my leave."
