Explaining that he is writing because Captain Talorque, Commander of the Gendarmerie and under whose guard he has been, is going to Paris; informing him that he is well again after "the extreme Tortur that I have endured for the last five weeks" and that he can now "begin to think of a Subject I indeed never forgot - the Situation of my Pecuniary affairs in England...and to your Friendship and Humanity I commit myself and the future fate of my five daughters, whose whole prospects in life lays at your Door."
