Summary
Acknowledging receipt of his letter and expressing his disappointment to hear that instead of advancing to Kotah he will be proceeding to Ratlam "to dislodge a Body of Horse whom you represent to be in that neighbourhood. I fear that your marching by that [illegible] Route will prevent the accomplishment of my intention, in directing you to advance on Kotah as the Enemy's Brigades & Guns are already considerably advanced and tho' General Fraser with a very respectable force of Eurasians and Natives is proceeding towards them I fear unless you are enabled effectively to cooperate that there is little chance of his being enabled to come up with them - I request therefore that if it is by any means practicable you will advance immediately on Kotah. I am in pursuit of Jaswunt Rao Holkar who has crossed into the Dooab but I am enabled to hang so close upon his Rear that he has not time to plunder and will I expect shortly attempt to recross the Jumna."
