Notes

A loose sheet (1 p.) written in an unknown hand is laid in at the end of the notebook; it reads: "Carnet de comptes de / Mme veuve Edouard Manet / Ce précieux carnet porte les / indications des ventes de tableaux / et dessins de Manet, effectuées par / Mme Manet de 1894 à 1900, / notamment avec [Ambroise] Vollard." The earliest date to appear in the notebook is actually 1892, not 1894.
Includes two small sketches.
The notebook includes many blank pages, and some pages at the beginning and middle of the volume have been excised.
With a sticker on the front pastedown for "H. Penny's / Patent / Improved Metallic / Books / Warranted If Written On With His / Prepared Pencils / To Be As Plain & Durable As Ink / They will be found of great advantage / to Travellers and all persons who wish / to preserve their Writing / No. 12."

Adolphe Tabarant; by descent to his daughter, Lucienne Tabarant; sold by Lucienne Tabarant to Mina Curtiss in 1960; purchased as the gift of Mrs. Charles Engelhard and children in memory of Mr. Charles Engelhard in 1974.
