Asking for his assistance in helping Dr. Robert Gordon now that "a change will take place in the Medical Department of the Army by the abolition of the present Board;" explaining the financial situation of Dr. Gordon and his desire to see him placed in a new position that will provide him with more income; adding that if a position is not possible, then he would like to see him granted "a Retirement on full Pay, by which you will most particularly oblige me, and impress with everlasting Gratitude, the heart of one of the best and most worthy men I know, for such, I do not hesitate to say, is Doctor Robert Gordon..."
