Concerning an appointment for Mr. Henning, his relationship to Sir John Johnstone, the effect it has on a possible appointment and issues surrounding the Election; saying "I think Sir John Johnstone ought to make an apology to Mr. Henning; and to me also for his insolent conduct & Letter to me. Sir John Johnstone has it in his Power by Conciliation to return the 4 members for the Borough...If he would leave the management of the Borough to you, I am sure that you might pledge yourself that he should return, any three members whom he might think fit to [illegible] besides yourself...If Sir John Johnstone loses the Borough he has himself solely to blame - I cannot give him advice."
