Summary:

Informing him that the convoy which sailed from Portsmouth for Lisbon "has in charge four Cavalry Transports, with forage &c complete, capable of containing about 140 Horses - The reason of sending them to you is that you may, should you think it expedient, employ them in conveying that number of the Horses of the two Reg'ts in these Ships to Sir Ralph [Abercromby] as I have no doubt they will be found preferable for immediate Service to any Horses He can procure in Turkey, & will enable Him to go on till the remainder of the Cavalry can be mounted - Should you employ these Transports for this purpose you will of course select the best & hardiest Horses for embarkation - Should you not think this Expedient advisable, the Forage on board these Transports I have no doubt will be highly acceptable to the Cavalry at Lisbon, and the Transports having parted with it may return with Infantry to this Country;" adding the names of the four Transport ships in a postscript as the "Sovereign, the Isabella, the Carlisle & the Prescott. If you think the Suggestion a good one, & they arrive in time, you will act upon it - If they do not you will not wait for them, as the speedy departure of the Dragoons for Sir Ralph's Army, as I stated in my letter of yesterday, is a point of the greatest importance."
