Summary
Describing the aftermath of the fire in her and Duncan Grant's London studios following a bombing raid; saying "Duncan heard from Mr. Fennemore who seemed to think things must wait a little. Both our studios were completely burnt out. Mine had an unsafe floor left but that is all. One couldn't get in really to explore, but I think no paintings can have survived - & certainly no frames - There was nothing but charred wood - one or two dresses which were in a wardrobe & [illegible] were soaked but not burnt - but that is all - So for the time being I cant do much in the way of exhibiting. It seems too uncertain what will exist after another few months for any immediate plans - Still some day we must try again. I think if our group did have a studio it ought to be in the Fitzroy St. neighbourhood & that seems to be rather badly hit - [illegible] studios & rooms had been set alight & bombed - & the little chapel in Maple St. wrecked - & a garage destroyed & so on. So we might just wait. Meanwhile we are getting the game-keeper here & his red haired daughter to sit - separately - they seem only too delighted to do so. I believe if we were more adventurous all sorts of country people might be quite ready to sit, at any rate for a time. Its exciting to them to come to a studio, which to us seems odd but fortunate!"
