Summary
Asking for his "influence with the Duke in a recommendation to the King for a Regiment" based on their "24 years of uninterrupted friendship;" detailing his service accomplishments and his frustration at not being promoted while he has "seen several of my juniors appointed to the command of Regiments, were it not that I am really much embarrassed in my pecuniary circumstances and should be peculiarly relieved by such an addition to my income especially while I have the preference of maintaining my Son at the University;" relating the details of the small inheritance from his father which made him more dependent on his military salary in providing for his family.
