Contract between Henri Matisse and Paul Rosenberg, Paris, 1936 July 16 : typescript.

Stating in 6 clauses: 1. Matisse promises to give Rosenberg the first look at all his paintings. 2. Rosenberg, in return, agrees to acquire the list of paintings below at the prices indicated for a minimum of 125,000 francs and 1,643 pounds sterling per year. There follows a list of paintings with sizes, prices, and numbers (prices listed in francs and pound sterling). 3. The present contract is valid for 3 years. 4. Payment will be made in cash. 5. The contract does not apply to decorations and portraits that Matisse may execute. 6. In case of war, the contract becomes null and void, unless Rosenberg wishes to keep it in effect.
