Summary
Matisse has received 2 letters from Rosenberg. He hasn't left Paris since the previous summer, having put off his departure for various reasons, particularly a flu that he has just gotten over. He's hoping to go to Vence during the first few days of April. He hopes that Edmond Rosenberg has told him that he [Matisse] sent Edmond the certificates in relation to the Dormeuse [probably Sleeping Woman, also called Le rêve (The Dream), 1940] and hopes that things will work out quickly. He thanks Rosenberg for his offer to send him things [or maybe money], but he doesn't find it necessary to the point of disturbing Rosenberg. As for the painting Le Tabac Royal [1943], this painting has not belonged to him for a long time and he is unable to tell him who the present owner is. (in postscript) He says he should have responded sooner to Rosenberg's congratulations for Matisse's being named Commandeur of the Légion d'Honneur, which occurred while Matisse was ill with the flu. He's only now getting back to his correspondence.
