Summary
Thanks him for his supportive letter. He has received a letter, which he has enclosed with this one, that he asks Rosenberg to return to him. It's about an important exhibition of his works in Geneva in 1940. He had promised to do the exhibition 2 years earlier. This letter is the follow-up, despite the circumstances. He says that he himself regretfully cannot concern himself with this. He says that if what they are asking does not seem feasible to Rosenberg, maybe Rosenberg can get something out of this exhibition for his new idea. He asks Rosenberg to reply quickly, so that he can write something to Monsieur Ph. Erlanger [probably Philippe Erlanger]. He's enclosing a letter from Monsieur Grasset from 1938 along with a map of the exhibition rooms that were intended for his exhibition. Grasset came to see him during the summer of 1938. Matisse was away, and Grasset wrote him a long letter. Matisse answered that he agreed to the exhibition in principle, but that since the date was still far off, they'd talk about it later. That's what the letter he's sending Rosenberg is about. (note in pen by Matisse) Enclosed with the letter is 2 letters and 1 map.
