Summary
Questioning the nature of the business of M. de Wimpffen who arrived with a letter of introduction from him; asking for an explanation as he has "no personal knowledge of him or of his history or of the situation or means of the person he wishes to communicate with - I do not wonder that you, who have enough to do besides opening negotiations of this sort should have overlooked this embarassment, but you will oblige me by letting me know as soon as you can what you know about the business;" adding, in a postscript in a different hand, that the "M. de W. has represented to me the embarassment he is under for want of money, & I have made him a small advance."
