Proposing a new assignment for him to "avail ourselves of your zeal & ability in the Kings service...You will by this time have heard that H. M'y has directed a Corps of Hanoverians to be taken into British Pay...in order to cooperate in the first instance for the defense of the Republic, & to be employed afterwards in such service as circumstances may point out. His Royal Highness the Duke of York has been appointed by H. M'y to the command of the corps and the King has approved of the idea of your being employed (supposing it agreeable to yourself) to attend H.R.H. & to conduct His correspondence with the Gov't of this country & also with that of the Republic. There have also been ideas of giving you at the same time a military situation in the army to be so employed - There have occurred more difficulties with respect to these ideas than I had hoped - But as in all Events we should wish you (agreeably to the wish expressed by yourself) to return to England after having seen H.R.H. at the Hague, we shall be able to converse with you fully on the subject."
