Summary
Commenting on victories by the Germans [and Austrians] against the French; noting that Austrian troops under [Count Heinrich von] Bellegarde "committed the most horrid enormities -- rapes, murders, pillages, & devastations"; giving an account of the French losses: "a Detachment of Austrians & Russians was sent immediately against them [the French], who, after a few sharp engagements, put an end to their existence -- about one thousand of the Republicans remained unpon the spot, nearly three thousand surrendered, the rest dispersed, & left behind some field pieces, a large stock of ammunition, & sundry other military implements"; mentioning General [Jean Victor Marie] Moreau; quoting at length from a letter from Lord Bristol [Frederick Hervey] written from Trieste on May 11, 1799.
