Summary
Congratulating him on his appointment as Secretary at War; commenting on the intention "to send the whole or part of the King's German Legion to Stralsund : I am afraid no good can result from this measure because I know the King of Sweden last year could never bring into the field more than 7000 men, & by my letters from the Continent this winter, I have no reason whatever to believe that at present he can bring a larger force to act offensively therefore the most that can be expected from him, even with the Infantry of Legion, is the defence of Stralsund - In the event of my being ordered on this unpleasant Service, do you think there is a possibility of keeping the Command here open for me - The Government of this Island answers my purpose in every respect & both for military and private reasons, I should be sorry indeed to lose it. - I have lately been very unwell, and obliged to go into the Country for a change of air. - poor Marie is still in dreadful distress & at this moment I should be very sorry to leave her."
