Summary: 

Acknowledging receipt of his letter and expressing his satisfaction at the possibility of being assigned to a Regiment with two battalions; expressing his hope that "whenever the Duke of York takes me into his consideration it will be for an old Regiment not likely to be reduced whenever a Peace may take place;" reiterating his displeasure at having been "set aside" when other Regiments added a 2nd Battalion.
