Expressing his dissatisfaction at the "unpleasant observations I hear made by others at my not having a second Battallion added to the 84th Reg't which I hear spoken of by military men with a degree of reflection as if I had misconducted myself. If I have not been employed, it is no fault of mine as I always offer'd myself, but never was called upon & I must say without being call'd upon have done my Duty in the only way I could;" discussing a recruiting plan and the county elections.
