Replying to questions on the work of American writers produced within the past five years; naming Truman Capote as the author whose narrative power is strongest and whose execution of character is strongest and naming Katherine Ann Porter as the author whose prose style he most admires; replying to the question of which three writers he would most like to have as neighbors, "Thornton Wilder, Tennessee Williams and James Kirkwood;" citing "The Magus" as his favorite novel of the past five years; adding a note at the bottom in reference to the last 9 questions on literary criticism which he declined to answer saying "I don't pay much attention to writers and writing & I read very little fiction, almost no criticism, and my answers to many of these questions would be no better than uninformed guesses."
