Summary
Commenting on all the good wishes he has received [on gaining his British citizenship] "and though I pretty well thought I should like doing what I have done, I find it agrees with me still better than I have imagined...I think I taste my citizenship rather more on this spot - discounted as it truly was when I took it up by something forty long years so remarkably like it that I wonder anyone can tell them apart - I myself being all but unable to;" adding that he received "a postcard from H[ugh] W[alpole] 'in Galicia' closely about and in the trenches, and under fire as an intimate Red Cross ministrant, and pronouncing the last three months, in spite of his twice having but just escaped capture by the enemy - 'Which I dread much more than anything else' - the very happiest of his life. He hopes to get back here in September - when I count upon his being far more interesting and informing than if he had spent this interval otherwise."
