Writing that he is "sorry and surprised to find that [his] letters have such a melancholy sound" and blaming it on his handwriting; adding, "I sometimes feel that I love the army"; mentioning that he went to the Bon-Air hotel [in Augusta] over the weekend; asking her to get a copy of "Family Dinner" [one of his stories] because his Company Commander wants it; telling her that the story appeared in Collier's on July 22 or July 25.
