Marveling at how much free time he has while Sergeant Dunham is away from Camp Croft; remarking that "four men were called from [his] platoon this morning to be interviewed for officers training school; telling her that "this does not mean [he] will remain a private for the duration of the war" because "there are a lot more interesting possibilities than being an infantry Lieutenant"; commenting on a picture he sent to her.
