Concerning a bequest to his family from the will of Lady Bath; thanking him "for the kind & handsome Manner in which you propose to fulfill Lady Bath's Intentions...I really believe that there is no part of her Will, which Lady Bath was more anxious to be carried into effect than the Draft in Question...I shall be much gratified in receiving your offer conditionally - that is, the amount of the Legacy in case you should acquire the absolute disposal of the property and if not, the interest of the £5000 during Lord Lothian's Life time. It would be an act of Injustice towards my Son, & one which I should have no Right to exercise, were I to decline the offer, which I am sure you have great pleasure in [illegible]. Matters being so situated, & having within these few days had reason to be certain that Lord Lothian has no sort of intention of increasing my income, any Secrecy with respect to this Business becomes less necessary."
