Summary
Expressing, at length and in detail, his opposition to the Judicature Bill concerning the structure of the courts and the role of juries in civil cases; saying that ..."the most moderate & most indifferent agree that to hurry such a measure while neither the English understand our Law nor we theirs is imprudent impolitic & unwarrantable - Any man who will obtain us time for consideration will become popular in Scotland - and if it be forced on us there will not be a man of property in Scotland who will not be dissatisfied with just(?) a few mercenaries excepted;" encouraging him to ask Lord Sidmouth for his help and assuring him that the legacy he would leave would be a lasting one for the country.
