Saying that he tried to telephone her but nobody answered; remarking that "it is very hot here and it is going to be much hotter"; reporting that he had another typhoid injection and they were given their "rifles, bayonets, and gas-masks"; asking her to send him a money order for ten dollars because he has "to buy underwear etc., and [they] don't ... get paid until the end of June."
