Summary
Reporting that they received their identification tags and "two shots in the arm"; noting that the inspection happened and "only about ten men out of seventy were gigged and the sergeant was very happy"; describing his evening and remarking that "the way you live in the army brightens all the simple pleasures of life and it was wonderful to eat French Fried potatoes and rare meat"; noting that Flannery [Lewis] has written "a couple of very nice letters" and asking if she can thank him since he doesn't have time; suggesting that she ask the Lewises over for a drink; observing that she should not worry about sending periodicals because he hasn't "had a chance to read anything but letters since [he] got here" and doesn't think he will have time for the next month.
