Summary
Sending encouraging words about Temple's financial situation; wishing him joy of his son and agreeing to be the boy's godfather; telling him that [David] "Hume is not to go to Paris"; advising him against "leav[ing his] family," and writing, "do not allow yourself to suppose that Lord L. will do nothing more for you"; reporting that Miss Blair's marriage to another man has been "broken off"; explaining that he has been visiting Miss Blair again and "the old flame was kindled," but she has said that 'really she had a very great regard for [him], but did not like [him] so as to marry [him]"; referring to the Irish woman ("sweet Marianne") he hopes to marry and announcing that he plans to go to Ireland in March; ending by stating that he is "just now a good deal in debt" and would need to know "some weeks before" if Temple "want[s] any credit" from him.
